Springboard provides resources to Atlantic Canadian universities and colleges to help them transfer knowledge and technology to our region's private sector. The network members are from thirteen Atlantic Canadian Universities and five community colleges. Springboard’s network members work to connect publicly-funded research with industry experts through a range of programs and services, and also connects skilled professionals in academia and industry to create new collaborations.

The Opportunity

A key element in the ongoing success for Springboard Atlantic is an integrated college and university network that allows all of its network members the opportunity to advance the institutional capacity in research and development and commercialization.  As well, as a recipient of funding from the Atlantic Innovation Fund, Springboard needs to be able to articulate these advances every three years as it works towards the renewal of its funding.

The Solution

Portfolio was hired to execute a network stakeholder audit to determine network members’ key issues and concerns before proceeding with Phase 4 renewal for the Springboard mandate. Portfolio developed the process, the questionnaire and conducted over 50 one on one interviews as part of the anonymous process to collect input and data. Following the completion of the audit, portfolio developed a stakeholder report and recommendations for the Springboard renewal committee on areas of focus and opportunity for the phase 5 renewal. Finally, Portfolio then facilitated the 2-day strategic planning network meeting to begin preparations for phase 4 renewal.

The Results

The renewal committee was able to incorporate all the findings from the stakeholder audit and successfully renewed funding for Springboard from the Atlantic Innovation Fund. The input and strategic recommendations provided the network with the ability to focus on key areas of priority for both institutions and the funder.

Portfolio has been engaged to begin this process again for Phase 5 renewal beginning this year.

Portfolio has been supporting our external and internal network engagement at Springboard for several years. In addition, we have been working with Portfolio recently to create a full marketing and communications strategy and plan. I have been pleased with Portfolio’s Mike Randall’s work and counsel and would highly recommend him.
