The Opportunity

As North America’s last operational sardine plant, the Connors Bros plant in Black’s Harbour, NB must continuously look at ways to reduce costs through continued innovation and modernization.  As well, as part of a continuing commitment to minimize the company’s environmental impact, Connors Bros is always looking for ways to use less energy and water in the day-to-day operations of its plant.

Connors Bros has worked with Portfolio’s Mike Randall for over 15 years to help secure government funding investment into ongoing modernization, automation and environmental sustainability solutions at the Black’s Harbour facility.

The Solution

At Portfolio, we understand the importance of properly positioning the proposed projects to ensure acceptance by government decision-makers.  We work hard to deliver proposals that fit within key government priority areas and proposals that reinforce the value-added benefits to the communities where the projects will be executed.

The Results

To date, the investments into the Black’s Harbour facility have generated over $40 million in capitol infrastructure development over the last decade.  It’s created better and safer working conditions, improved environmental impact and allowed the company to remain competitive on a global market.

Portfolio’s Mike Randall’s guidance has been invaluable to me personally as well as from our business perspective. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of Connors and our many fishermen on various files…most with positive outcomes. This is largely due to his ability and willingness to learn everything possible about our historic and complex fishery in order to help plot the best course forward. Mike continues to work on our behalf with many representatives in both levels of Government and his ability to navigate the various departmental bureaucratic intricacies is second to none.
